What is rootbound? how can tell if your plant is rootbound? what are the effects? and can it be reversed? I would like to know the pros and cons

Rootbound:
When your plants' roots have grown in your pot to all possible spaces.

It's roots are "bound" inside the small confinements of the pot.
One way to know if it's root bound is to look under the pot... are roots sticking out of the drainage holes? If yes, then it's probably root bound.

Pros: It's good for your plants... they can grow.
Cons: It's not good for your plants. They can't grow that much.

Reversed? Yeah, just place them in a bigger pot.

You reverse the effects of a plant being root bound by transplanting them into bigger pots. After a few days you should see growth resume.

Yea, rootbound is usually when you can lift the stem of the plant and get all the soil to come out in the shape that it's already in. Just plant that huge glob of dirt into a bigger pot and the roots will continue to grow. I think the only side effects of being rootbound is the plant being stunted in growth. Actually, I'm not even sure if it dies. It might just be there doing nothing. No idea.

Many plants will have roots sticking out the bottom and have the dirt come out in one giant beautiful ball and not be root bound. NOT...

You really need to look for the effects .. the manifestations ... the plant will not be "right"

A good first indicator is yellowing of all leaves simultaneously and new growthbeing smaller than previous growth..... that is NEVER GOOD... NEW growth should always be bigger..better.. more petals!!!!!!!!!

Thug seems to give alot of half ass knowledge...not that I know more but we don't want to give people untrue or unsure advice here and if we do we say but I'm not possitive.Bad advice could leed to the death of someones crop...so be careful with advice...everybody.

Another way to solve this problem without transplanting and causing a grwth stunt.Just carfully cut the bottom of the little pot and place it on top of another grow medium like soil...I think knowm said something to this nature.But I did it outside last year and it worked better because sometime transplanting a 4 foot plant or bigger can be a bitch.

you need to break up the rootball when transplanted to get the roots unlocked from each other. you can do this with your fingers or with scissors. only free up the outside inch or so though
