its ppl like you that are making this ALREADY hard war even harder.

if it was up to me, i'd handle things like the russians. When those terrorists held up the russian school or whatever, they got all their family members, lined them up and shot them in plain view and left only one or two to survive. And then they said they're going to kill them if they dont surrender. They surrendered.

let the people in charge do what they gotta do.

Well, they had those spyplanes in the air at the time and apparently it was the unmanned drones that dropped the bombs. Well, this got me thinking...
With all the technology thats around now, why not just activate the nightvision on them (and if they havent got them, well, then theyre fuckin useless), parachute in a few hundred men - dont tell me that they havent got the manpower to do so - and capture him instead? They could get a lot of useful information from that guy, and the guys that are around him. Or, gas the area - Im sure that theyve got gas that can render people unconscious for a coupla hours, and even if it does harm people, they can be in and out before the innocents wake up again and deny all knowledge of such an attack. Yeah, Its a bit unfair, but if he DEFINATELY was there and avoided the attack, and we coulda gassed him and captured him alive, then surely 20 deaths is worth all the information hes holding about stashed WMD's (if any), future attacks etc.
    Just my POV.

They think they can get rid of evil by throwing bombs at people who do particularly bad things. This is due to their complete ignorance of three basic facts:
    1) The capacity for evil is in all of us. Even if every terrorist dropped dead right now, terrorism would not end.
    2) They're attacking whole populations just to get a few of the bad apples. They're killing way more good, honest, hard-working civilians than they are bomb-toting terrorists.
    3) Throwing bombs at terrorists is a really really really bad idea. About as bad as covering yourself in steak and jumping into a lion pit. You can't kill all the terrorists in one campaign. It simply can't be done, no matter how many smart bombs and Nintendo pilots you have. And when you kill some of them, that makes the others more pissed off at you. And when you bomb their countrymen, their countrymen get pissed off at you and are much more willing to join terrorist groups if they perceive it as the only way to seriously attack you.

Dealing with terrorists is a difficult issue, but the answer sure as hell isn't to set the terrorists' country on fire from the sky, for exactly the same reason that it would not have been acceptable to exterminate all the Germans in response to the Holocaust. Two wrongs don't make a right. Terrorism in response to terrorism is not acceptable behavior, because that makes you a terrorist. I do not dispute that terrorists deserve to die for their horrible actions against humanity. But I'm not going to limit myself to brown terrorists who don't believe in Jesus; Bush and Cheney are just as guilty of Osama and deserve the same fate as he does. Worse even, for they are responsible for far more preventable civilian deaths than Osama could ever dream of causing.

I know Ive said something thats sorta similar, but that was a little extreme. Just becuase theyre husband or father is a terrorist, doesnt mean that their family agrees with what they did - or even that they knew. That action made the government as bad as the original hostage takers, if not worse.
If you think that was the right thing to do, then you seriously need your head testing with the muzzle of a nice chrome plated pistol.

Oneironnaut - regarding the thing you said about the Germans and the Holocaust, have you ever seen a film called The Pianist? Its a true story, extremely powerful and moving. Just that when you mentioned killing all of Hitlers men afterwards wasnt the right thing to do, it made me think of the ending to the film where the German finds the starving Polish dude and gives him his jacket and some food. Then, after the war, the Pole goes to find the German, only to find out hes been killed.
