Yeah, I don't use the word techno either. I do use "electronica" to cover all the genres, though.

I listen to a lot of both drum & bass and trance, and there are some massive differences in the genres; no, they don't sound the same, nor do they (most of the time) sound even remotely similar. That doesn't only go for seasoned listeners, either; any moron can tell the differences between Paul Van Dyk and say.. Goldie.

To those who'd say music shouldn't be classified: even bands/producers/etc who share an exact genre can sound utterly different, let alone all genres under a partciular category sounding the same. I don't like all genres of electronica. Isn't it easier for me to say which specific genre I don't enjoy, and which ones I do? There's a HUGE world of music out there, and without classifications, it would be harder to find artists whom you know for sure you'd enjoy.
