AHHG!!! TRANCE IS NOT TECHNO
Despite my S/N I don't like trance or techno. I also don't like female vocals unless they're really deep like Alison Moyet (Yazoo) or Annie Lennox (Eurythmics).
My reason for not liking trance is that it all sounds the same (as in the sounds used) and the light female vocals. I don't even know what techno is to be honest!
That doesn't mean I can't appreciate other genres though. I do like a lot of hip-hop even though I prefer early 80's synthpop.
Anyone noticed how some fans of rock and metal CANNOT, under any circumstances, appreciate other music genres. I've noticed it a lot, and believe it to be FACT!
And the "real instrument" argument doesn't work. A real instrument is something you can sit down with and manipulate with your body. Some people would argue that turntables and mixers are real instruments! And if a synthesizer isn't a real instrument because "the sound is electronically produced" then bear that in mind when you see someone smashing a guitar on stage with all the circuits flying out of it. And with tons of electronic effect pedals everywhere I could safely say that most people don't know what a clean electric guitar actually sounds like!
Even though sitting in front of a computer to make music takes talent, I don't regard it as real music because playing real (ahem, physical) instruments (whether they be drums, guitars, keyboards) is actually quite tiring and requires extra elements of skill, co-ordination and timing.
For those of you who like your music heavy, check out this album. The drummer is amazing! Then check out some of my beautiful equipment over at www.keyboardassassin.tk
