Actually I looked it up and Xanax is a benzodiazepine not a barbiturate. Though there is very little difference in benzodiazepines not a barbiturates. Itâ??s hard to even understand what the difference is. Benzodiazepines are the newer drugs that have fewer side effects like stomach discomfort etc. Also they are supposed to be a little less addictive from the older barbiturates. But for the most part they are the same thing.
