None of this is original. I have borrowed from alot of people who are much smarter than I. I am growing outside in So cal in a cement mixing tray ($5) from home depot. The water level is 1 1/2" deep. I have lava rocks in it to house beneficial bacteria. Inside the tray is a fountain/pond pump 130gph ($30). The pump runs 24/7. It's quiet. I have not changed the nutrients, just added to it. I started the swc Dec 15. I'm growing tomato since it is similar to mj. I did not use any rooting hormone. I cut the clone Dec 27. I did not trim large leaves. I stuck it in a slice of pool noodle ($.97)and let it float in the swc. In about 9 days I began to see bumps. This is a picture of the roots today, 4 days later. The plant never wilted and there are just now signs of nitrogen deficency in the large bottom leaves.

Interesting! DWC seems to be an excellent method of rooting clones.I've seen it done withuot the use if rooting hormone!

Yeah well, I have no beans, easy. I ordered some beans Dec 8 and I still have no freakin beans. MJ is taboo in So cal. Even though we have the medical mj card (which I don't have), the cops will still get ya. It's a $100 misdeamenor for less than 28 grams.
I coudn't wait to get started, so I started growing veggies. I've always been a dirt farmer, but hydro is sooo much easier. It's also alot more rewarding. No snails and slugs. I use to go out every night and pick snails and slugs off my plants. Even resorted to vacuuming sow bugs in the garden had so many. So when I do get those beans..... I will be ready. I've also built lights and am tweaking the indoor system. Some day I will have beans to grow.

Oh the anticipation, is most horrid and ever present! When those little eggs come through the door one can't but become high pitch and bab'like..and thereafter, the agonising watch and wait of the grow itself...untill on one tender and fanatically awaited day..the fruits of thy labour are reaped...and bountifull harvest can atlast sweep you ........into OBLIVION!

Well, this is just an experiment to see if I could do it. This is my hydro laboratory. Once I get my beans going I will give them a 2-3 gallon container each. I needed to know if I could clone without rooting hormone (yes), how long the clone would take to root (9 days), if I needed to trim larger bottom leaves (no), could I grow without medium (well I still needed some place to keep the beneficial bacteria) (yes), could I grow using a pump and no bubbler (yes) there's enough water circulation, could I use tap water only (yes). Would I get algae if I had beneficial bacteria (not yet), does light destroy roots (no), however drying out roots is a sure death. Could the seedlings survive submerged underwater (no), can I grow onions (remains to be seen), will lettuce do well (yes), can I grow in dirt and transfer to hydro (yes) plus some others I
    can't think of right now.

Yeskaa, how do you get your plants to stay erect (keep it clean) without medium?

Good morning everyone. Here are pictures of the tomato plant in hydro. I just took a picture of the roots so you can compare the difference in root size from a few days before. Since I took this clone off a plant with flowers, this clone immediately started showing flowers after showing a few roots. Amazing!

This swallow water culture has been very good to me. I've learned alot just by growing plants in there. This is all research for my future marijuana grows. The only draw back is mosquitos. Yep, about a week ago I found larvae swimming around in my tank. So, I covered it with mosquito netting. Teach those suckers to lay eggs in my farm! Other than that all is well.

    LOL

They perdy much balance themselves on thier own root ball. instead of a net pot i use a styrofoam cup when cloneing and by the time there big and tearing the litte hole in the bottom of the cup bigger the rootball then is big enough to support the top plant it might just float there ?or actuall sit....iv been needing to get some neopream but i keep forgeting every time im at walmart duh..if needed i use various objects to keep it from tilting one way or the other ...but it works out perdy much on his own if anything i improvise
