Maybe there is less change for a bad trip when you combine alcohol and mushrooms. In my experience the alcohol really flattens the mushroom trip and reduces it's effects.

On the other hand the mushrooms make you feel more clear and sober when you've used alcohol. The ephedra might also enhance this effect.

In my opinion I like mushrooms the most without alcohol, only it's nice to reduce the effects of shrooms at the end of the trip when it's time to sleep.
