My Mother caught me smoking (1968) and we had the big argument. I was over 18 and getting married in about a month, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Even so, my mother tried cannabis for the first time the day I got married. She dabbled with it a few more times.

Unfortunately, it didn't "take"- she said it got her "mildly tranquilized" and she kept on drinking. She suicided years later, due to her body giving out from the effects of her alcoholism. I wish I knew then, what I know now about medical cannabis use.

Now, my situation is a bit strange, our family (2 adult sons, hubby and me) is divided between tokers and nontokers. Neither of my sons use cannabis and drink very moderately. I don't push my cannabis on them, and they tolerate our use (medical). One used a single time when he had a migraine. (His reaction- "Dang! It worked!"). The other likes house plants and has a mild interest in how my plants are doing.

As to the parents knowing or not. My "Granny Storm Crow's list" can be a big help in changing your parent's minds. Take a look at it (linked below) and I am sure you will find several useful articles and studies. Nothing like the scientific facts to counter all those government brainwashing lies! :thumbsup: There are sections on "addictiveness", "gateway effect", 'safety" and many others that may be helpful.

And remember, part of the problem is that your parents do love and worry about you. They have been "fed" propaganda and lies for most of their lives and are responding accordingly. When you finally do discuss cannabis with them, be calm, well informed and loving. Be able to show them the proof that backs up your point of view.
