despite this latest act of violence Canada is no where in the same league in violence as the US.

I think we've been desensitized here because when I read your post I was like "Oh..only ONE person dead? That's good." That's how bad it is here. We have shootings like that EVERY DAY in every city and it doesn't really make headlines.

In fact, there was just a triple murder suicide around the corner from my parents house in an affluent suburb of Washington DC. It made CNN headlines and the Washington Post and I even saw the Swat truck drive by that morning. But it's like "Oh well...somebody snapped and killed a bunch of people.." I mean it's NOT even surprising to anyone here anymore. The only reason it made headlines is because it was in a NICE town.

So Canadians, don't fret you have along way to go before you reach our level and that is a good thing.

PS- If the death penalty really deterred people from committing murder the us would be the safest place in the world
