The server hardware is more than plenty, but the underlying database software is not optimized - we are aware of the problem, but some of the fixes have been deferred until the message board software is upgraded.

In regards to money, the biggest ongoing expense is webhosting. In addition, the upgrade of the boards could likely cost some money too.
