    STRECHING!

    hi,
my little plants are going all so wrong. They are 8 days from when i planted the seeds now and all 10 have germinated. Unfortuantly they all are just growing straight up and not putting on any leaf at all. why is this?

the first pic was taken 2 days ago and the second was taken about 10 minutes ago. (i have now moved them to the window as my mother reckons it will be better for them there but today is the shortest day of the year about 10 hours light, is this pointless too?)

I had them under an 18 watt t5 bulb in my growing space which has been about 35% humidity and average temp of 17 degrees C. The light was hung about 6 inches above the plant tips and has been on a 18-6 cycle. Yesterday i changed up to a 24 -0 but when i looked at them this morning they had stretched loads. Yesterday was also the first day i gave them water with a weak amount of food in it, like 1/4 normal strength.

Why are they doing this? Should i just chuck them away and start again as they look crap.

    cheers 4 ur help

!8 watts is a bit weak....at least double it...six inces is too far ..2 inches is best...the lack of intense light is causing them to focus their energy on stem growth and not leaf....i doubt the window will give sufficient light at this time of year! lower your fluoro..and make a little reflector..from white paint or even paper or best mylar..if your too poor to afford a new light..use a suplementary reading lamp...

take my word for it up your setup you need about 8,000 lumens per plant for steady growth anywhere between 4,000 and 5500 kelvins or way higher wattage bulbs i thought my plants would continue to grow under a couple warm flouresents but once they reach a certain size and leaf formation then growth drasticly stops take a couple steps backwards and do some more research on growing and i garrentee it'll help u make drastic advancements in the long run..try the growfaq section here for great info and in the words of the wise and all knowing...go cheap grow cheap..good luck
If you cant grow it..dont smoke it!

well i have a 400 watt for when they are big enough. When they have about 4 set of real leaves ill stick them under the daddy light but untill then they stay under the two tube lights.
As for nutrients. What will they live on if i dont feed um? There is no goodness in rockwell and as soon as the roots are big enough they are going in the nft system for some serious growing time. it seems everyone in the world has a diffenert idea about what to feed um and when to start. The two i have in pots only need water as they cant fit in my nft, so they are side project.
cheers for the advice guys. They are looking much better already! The real leaves are growing properly now and as i have the lights on 24/7 they are flying.
    bingo, bango, banjo.

Be careful with foil, foil can focus the light on plants and burn holes in them. (Aluminum foil, tin foil, etc)

Use the matt side of foil NOT the shiny side!...Better still use matt White emulsion...NOT brilliant white...better STILL ...MYLAR! [is inexpensive]....You have a similar set up to me...except I'm going hydro with my cuttings come the flower time!...so keep this thread alive and I will post my pics and journal anon.Download 'THE CANNABIS GROW BIBLE' by Greg Green! It's free on torrent sites and is a very good and easy manual for your needs! If you must feed them...Use a super dilute concentration at first and only feed half of them to see if they can handle it ..if they can't you will be sorry if all the plants die !
