    lyric interpretation

in this thread we are to delve into the musician's mind and formulate an interpretation of our own. no one's right and no one's wrong.

the jimi hendrix experience - castles made of sand

Down the street you can hear her scream youâ??re a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually

A little indian brave who before he was ten,
Played wargames in the woods with his indian friends
And he built up a dream that when he grew up
He would be a fearless warrior indian cheif
Many moons past and more the dream grew strong until
Tomorrow he would sing his first warsong and fight his first battle
But something went wrong, surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually

There was a young girl, whos heart was a frown
â??cause she was crippled for life,
And she couldnâ??t speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she could stop living,
    So she decided to die
She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore
And to her legs she smiled you wonâ??t hurt me no more
But then a sight sheâ??d never seen made her jump and say
Look a golden winged ship is passing my way

And it really didnâ??t have to stop, it just kept on going...

And so castles made of sand slips into the sea, eventually

what i think jimi is trying to say is if you don't have a strong foundation you'll never stand up for what you believe.

I think it's that no matter what you plan on in life, fate will always intercept.

Yeah, thats what i think too. That you won't be able to stop it and you will be seperated from the one you love.

I dont know, i can't be bothered to read the lyrics properly.

I see each grain of sand that makes up the 'castle' as an experience that we have been through, whether it be blinking our eyes or getting stoned for the first time, even making love. All of that builds this castle and the sea can either play death (second verse) and wash that life away to make room for other castles to be created, which in turn adds on an experience to other pre-existing castles.
The sea could also be seen as maybe karma (not sure if that's the correct term to use) for example in the first verse. The man has created a love triangle between his girl and his liquor. The sea plays as karma to wash away his castle, this is because he built his castle too close to the water therefore, he must learn from his mistakes (mistreating his girl, letting the liquor get the better of him, etc) and go on in life.

I hope this makes sense when I come down. If it doesn't, oh well, it sounded good at the time.
