The reason they tell you not to smoke weed or anything else is because of the suction created when you pull on the pipe or bowl or cig. It can cause the little "scabs" in the now empty sockets to pop out which can lead to something called dry sockets and from what I hear, it hurts a whole lot more than the actual surgery since the nerve will be exposed to the air.
