    Considering stoping paxil.

Please keep the rantings to one thread. Some are trying to offer legitimate help and these childish comments are rude and simply uneccesary.

    Considering stoping paxil.

I was very displeased with the maker of paxil, since they, the pharmacudical companies, and my doctor all insisted it causes no withdrawl. When I finally decided to get off it I was so stressed and irritable I would BLOW UP, just flip out, over the most stupid little things. It lasted about a week for me, and thankfully near the end of it, when it still felt really bad, I went to a metallica concer and just let out a lot of my stress there (though I also wrecked my neck for a week from headbanging. My neck's injured, and while I tried to keep it to a minumum and do so carefully I still really paid the price lol).

I also experienced withdrawals when I stopped taking Paxil CR about 3 months ago. Stepped down to a half dose for two weeks and still had short bouts of vertigo for about a week after that. I didn't have any drastic emotional changes. I read a lot about it at the time and it seems a wide array of withdrawals are reported. I'm a much happier guy without the daily pills though so it was worth it.

You have a lot of really great things to say but that wasn't one of them. Depression is a serious illness and one size definately does not fit all when it comes to treatment.

First, don't believe everything the doctors say without checking out the facts. We are lucky that we have the internet to show us the other side of things.

These meds are NOT harmless. In my case (and in many other people's lives), Paxil made things FAR, FAR worse.

After one month on it I was getting really aggressive, then sucidal. I had a 'manic night' and my doctor told me to stop taking the drugs pronto. I was so not thinking that I followed her recommendations. DO NOT quit cold turkey. You may or may not experience the hellish symptoms, but chances are you will.

These meds MIGHT work for you, but please be aware that you're messing with your brain big time, and the damage may be permanent. They don't tell us that.

Three days later, my depression is gone because I feel like complete shit. I have the Flu, I can't hear right, I'm speaking like a moron and I have horrible brain zaps. I wouldn't wish these BRAIN ZAPS on my worst enemy. I was actually missing my depression and being miserable just to feel a little bit normal.

I've taken a lot of hard drugs, I've had many bad trips, I've been in car crashes, but nothing was as terrifying as PAXIL WITHDRAWAL, nothing comes even close.

6 days later and I'm back on Paxil so I can taper off in about a month just to make sure. I still have (although less painful) brain zaps, zombie-like appearance, zero motivation, can't talk properly. I can honestly say that weed saved my life these last couple of days because it helped me distract from the excruciating pain.

I can't believe that this shit is legal and given to KIDS and weed is not legal.

Paxil did help me with not taking my life and sanity for granted though. I just want to feel normal and healthy again.

The same goes for Effexor and the lot of 'happy pills'.

I've been on Paxil for almost 5 years. I plan on visiting my doctor asap to discuss getting off of it, and getting a prescription for diazepam. As, I recently took one, and it made me feel normal for the first time in 5 years. Pardon my language but fuck anti-depressants. I've been dealing with it's side effects for too long.

I've been on Paxil since I was 13, and I'm 17 1/2 now. Paxil did what it was supposed to do for me, due to the circumstances that were the cause of my initial problems, they were resolved. As of now, I'm on 40MG full-release and have been on it for years.

When I go to the doctor to inform her I want off of Paxil, and don't want to replace it with another anti-depressant, but explain to her my overwhelming anxiety (not depression, or delusional anxiety, but ptsd anxiety which overwhelms my life), what are the chances she'll give me diazepam?

I recently took one, and like I said, it made me feel normal for the first time in years. Paxil numbs my emotions, and feelings, but the anxiety is still present. It also numbed me from depression. I want off anti-depressants and want on diazepam. How often is that requested, and do doctors usually grant that request?
