Is a screen not needed for a pipe?

Glass pipes have a small hole. Just fill hole up with a piece of bud and load the rest.
Once the pipe is broke in the bud will stay in bowl... Although I have a friend that insist on keeping his bowl clean from burnt flavors.

It's true. I don't clean glass pieces. After awhile, they build up enough resin so you're never dry. That hole gets smaller and smaller, and the need for a screen lessens and lessens.

actually it depends on how big the whole in your pipe. if the holes is pretty big to where ashes could fall through then yea, use a screen. but if it's a small hole dont bother beucase it'll just make it harder to hit

umm and just so you people know, just take out the screen when it starts to get clogged and burn it with a lighter for a little while. then just brush it off and the shit should just fall. thats how I do it. but you could just dip it in acetone or boiling water. whatever you think will get it clean. and you can buy screens for like 20 for a $1. or i can. lol

also HEMPY you are dead wrong about how screens hurt pipes. I've had this one glass pipe since I started smokin and I've always used a screen in it. becuase the hole is too big and it spits through.

a buddy of mine used to always use screens...then we didnt hang out for about 2 months...then i smoke with him, figuring that it would be clogged as hell (like usual), and i hit that fucker hard...knowing what to expect...

    ...

morale of the story: always suck softly at first, you never know when your friend will go screenless, leaving you with a mouth full of burning pot, and black teeth

In my opinion it depends on the pipe. The one I have right now doesn't need a screen at all, and I have never inhaled ashes. This pipe isn't even meant for smoking out of! It is like a little WOODEN santa's village pipe. Weird. I have to get rid of it because the whole bowl is black \. Yes I know I should have use tin foil...
ANYWAY um yep, depends on the pipe.

I got a wood pipe that my friend got me from Jamaca and it hit perfect until I sort of ripped the end off. lol I disnt mean too though

also they guy at my headshop said thats it's very unhealthy to smoke out of a metal pipes becuase there is very small peice's of metal that go into your lungs so from there it enters your blood stream. and if you get too much iron or whatever in your blood it can seriously hurt you. but you would have to only smoke out a metal pipe for a really long time. like it's really not good for a metal pipe to be the main thing you smoke out of

No, metal against glass will scratch it. And will cause it to not live as long.
I live in the land of glass blowers... Trust me I get lectured about glass handlings all the time but they still give me free glass. lol
