If the subject is on, "how Cannabis lowers kids grades" Something maybe like: "Cannabis studies show that 60% of marijuana users get bad grades in school" That is your topic of your essay, that could be an example of a thesis. Or: "In recent years, statistics have shown that 60% of cannabis users under the age of 18, do poorer in school and are underachievers"

Something along the lines of that. I am am making up the %'s, just so you know.

The thesis is basically, the one sentence in the whole essay that explains what your essay will be about.
