Time Magazine/SIOBHAN MORRISSEY | December 8 2005 Comment: This entire incident is starting to mirror what happened to Charles de Menezes in London. Either this was a staged fearmongering exercise or they wanted Alpizar dead for a Rating: 5

The sad fact is that we really can't trust any "news" source. Everybody has their own agenda. Whether motivated by politics or the almighty $ the news gets skewed one way or another to serve the interest of those distributing it, certianly not those receiving it. The truth is often boring and boring stories do not sell. If you want to sell your paper or get more viewers, thus earning more advertising $, you need a story that excites people.

I have personally seen enough examples of our media stretching the truth that I no longer have 100% faith in anything I haven't seen with my own eyes. Not that I think they are outright lying. They just take the truth and cut and paste until it suits there needs.

    Example:

"After acting irratically and violently, an unarmed man was shot by a police officer in what was obviously a very confusing situation. Police had tried other measures to subdue the man but were forced to shoot him when he reached into his pocket for a potential weapon. Witnesses reported seeing no weapon but also admitted that they were extremely frightened by the situation and nearly shit their pants when the man went into his coat pocket...." This would probably be close to the truth, maybe, but this story would be over and done with in a day.

So, how to juice up the story without lying?
"Police shoot unarmed man" . That's all that needs to be said. It isn't lying, is it? But it gets people pissed off, people will talk about it for days and Pisshead will post numerous threads about it.

    That's how the media works.
