    slavery

i was drinkin with my friend one time, hes black and i suspect he might be a racist on the low, and he told me black people are still mad about slavery. do you feel that they should get over it already and stop tryin to use it as an excuse?

myself personally, i think when they say that, its a cop out. slavery happened over 200 years ago and they werent there and i highly doubt they had ancestors that were slaves. it kinda annoys me because every race had slaves and they got over it. i also dont think it is right to throw every white person into the slave owner category. if you really think about it, it wasnt a race thing, it was a money thing. i just wish my friend would be a lil less ignorant and examine things more openminded. i dunno what do you guys think?

People will find anything to take offence to. He hasn't been afftected personally but i guess stories have been passed down through generations and I can understand their Anomosity towards certain people!

Where I live in London, nowadays the Racial Mix is evenly spread out and Racism etc is slowly but surely being pushed out!

Altho i get u in this day of age there really shudnt be anythin to be mad at.

another thing that causes problems imo, is that black people have to have their own things like channels, awards, etc... by them doing that its creating problems. why cant we all just share the same thing. its like segregation all over again.

Oh I think we'll be seeing scars from slavery and the civil rights movement for a long time. It sounds like your friend is angry at the situation or doesn't know what he is angry about. Both valid positions. Don't take it so personally and be willing to at least hear what he has to say. It's when people throw up their hands and tell the black community to "get over it" that they get pissed off. A lot of these people simply want recognition for what their families went through.

You say that you doubt "they" had ancestors from back then but where do you think they came from, a stork? I have bookkeeping records from a small plantation that my family owned forever ago. I'm not sure the year, I'd have to go pull them out. In these documents there are records of slaves, their family ties, where they came from, who they bought them from, and how much they cost. It's a fascinating piece of history but when I think about my family name being attached to something like that I am horrified. No, it's not my fault this many years later but I feel it is my duty to learn from the mistakes of my ancestors.

Congress just THIS YEAR apologized for allowing the lynch-mob mentality to fester during the years surrounding the civil war. Countless black men, women, and children were murdered out in the open and the government actively looked the other way. Not a very respectable past. Both people need to allow themselves to have frank, honest discussions about modern-day racism. It's the only way it will finally be squashed.

i think the most racist people imo are italians. its kinda ironic though, they act racist towards blacks but try to emulate them and listen to hip hop and shit, the youths that is. did anyone hear of that howard beach incident awhile back?, thats the perfect example.
