science would explain it as auditory nerves growing into visual portions of the brain and vice versa

if a newborn is blinded, then the auditory nerves will take over visual sections of the brain... once we get older, this wont happen

to have this happen in someone with perfectly normal functioning senses is a phenomenon that science cant explain.. .but basically, you are using more of your brain than ordinary people do to process auditory and visual information, which in theory could give you access to information that the rest of us can not sense
