You know I support alot of what you say PH but seriously man , as someone who grew up in those areas. It's common place to have that kind of community co operation with police. They dont demand anything and they're simply asking. It's been done for homicides before and probably will be in the future. It's not spreading it's how Toronto has been for over 80 years.

I've let them in before whilst growing.....they just want to make sure its not a charnel house for a murderer. They've seen drug paraphenalia in my house and they never came back nor am I listed (considering I have family at 52 division who would see my name directly.....and tell me).

Sorry man not "new freedom".... old tradition....trusting the police when it comes to homicide. When people dissappear in alot of towns in Canada people still trust the police for that. (These are Homicide squad's units after all)

Now if they were doing Door to door in Regent park looking for cannabis grows then yes that would be "the new freedom" but so far thats limited to b.c. and sask "ketchie" wan(and before 9/11, they've always been nuts there). So far and mostly just in abbotsford in B.C. (which is basically more neoconservative then all of alabama and texas rednecks all put in one). And its not that big at all.....Just makes the news alot because the councillor's are "drug nazi's" and think "marihuana is a scourge!" (I think they steal their soundbites from George senior).

I reiterate in cases like this its happened many times for more than 80 years so , no its not new at all. Also the headline is misleading it should read "locals consenting to investigation procedure".......and I love the Star and have been printed by them as well so I certainly shouldnt "bite the hand" but.......Come on .....a few people don't consent and guess what 90% of the time "ok sir have a good day" (I"ve refused too as well as letting them in , if your doing your girl , showering , having apuff upstairs etc....of course your not going to let them in although they wouldnt care probably), if your acting all nervous and such then yes they figure (and possibly rightly) that you do have said suspected charnel house. We're talking about the police looking for a "people under the stairs" type house if you've ever seen that movie. Of course they MIGHT catch other wrongdoing but this isnt something that happens alot, However neither is it something at all new in any way shape or form.
