Advocates for Progressive Therapy and the reformed Hempower Utah have joined up to work for a medical marijuana initiative in Salt Lake City, Utah. We only need 7,201 signatures to get this on the ballot, no problem. We do need to finalize the wording and have it double checked by lawyers to make sure that they can't beat us on a legal screw up.

Are there any lawyers out there with experience in medical marijuana ballot initiatives? Is there anyone in Utah that would be interested in working with us on this campaign?

Come on man, You and I both know that even if this gets on the ballot, it'll be shot down 10 to 1. You're talking about Utah, not Vermont

Those are the best numbers that I've been able to find. I'll get on the phone and call 400 people right now if know what percentage in favor would by enough. KSL is a Mormon owned organization, so they removed the results and won't respond to requests, but if 78% of people that respond to a Mormon company are in favor than I'm sure it would pass, especially in SLC where we have a mayor that regularly attends anti-war/bush protests.

and besides, Mormons dont drink Caffeine Alchohol or smoke Tobacco, getting them to legalize pot, youll have a better chance of turning San Francisco into a republican town.

How can you say that the relief that people get from marijuana and no other medication is a scam?
About Mormons, I don't agree with their oppression and discrimination, but they are reasonable, especialy when it comes to business and Utah already has the largest herbal suplement farm industry in the country as well as the highest percentage of prescription drug use in the country, put the two together and I think if you aproached the church, and used this scripture (out of their holy book), then you might be able to get them on our side.

Even if it did pass, it would be heavily regulated, and the medical marijuana would be the equvalent of schwag.

I'll laugh with you, but the funny thing to me is that I'm the only one that's willing to get off my ass and do something to help end the discrimination against a plant that we all love. How can Med MJ be something that will not happen? Answer me that. With 78% of citizens in Utah and 80% of citizens nationwide and no medical marijuana issue on the ballot ever defeated. How, when medical marijuana is on the ballot in Utah, will it not win? I don't understand any logic, besides that of ignorance, that could suggest a defeat for any proposition, be it marijuana or anything, when the polls show so high of a percentage of the population are in favor of the issue. Can someone please explain to me why people on a site "in support" of cannabis can be so reluctant to pull the government blindfold off and realize that medical marijuana, and marijuana legalization altogether, are not something that will happen, but are happening right now.
If anyone has any logical reasons, besides preconceived notions of oppression, that medical marijuana will not pass in Utah or any other state then let's discuss them.

Why if it was heavily regulated, would the marijuana be the strength of schwag? I would think that a heavily regulated medical system, of any kind, would provide the best quality medicine available.
I've actually written to Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) and asked them to come up with a well regulated medical marijuana system, that I will then submit to the police departments here. I don't think they will be able to argue with a system that was designed by an organization of over 2,000 current and retired police. This way we will be able to avoid the problems that happen in more liberal states, such as CA, in the ongoing battle between the minority of conservatives in the state against the majority of liberals that are running the systems. If Bill O'Rielly is in support of medical marijuana, as well as a list of important republicans, then I think we would be able to pass a cross-party medical marijuana system that all sides can agree would provide the highest quality medicine to those who need it while keeping drugs out of the hands of high-school kids.
