I too have 8 WW and 3 bag tomato plants going since 11/20 and are coming along well. Still under floro, going to MH next week... But....

Was wondering why not to prune... nube also, and on my first grow pruned alot in late veg and in first week of flowering. Have just top 2 sets of fan leaves and leaves at tops of side growth.

    This lead to 2 things.
1 really funky plant that has only 7 nodes, and flowers galore. I MEAN tons of just flowers sites with little to no leaves. Even one site where it's just flowers like about 30 with no leaves in site!! Not sure what will happen when it's time to harvest but it looks very health, but stretched alot (and still growing taller)

Other plants have nice buds growing with minimal extra large leaves. Looks like I will have a nice bud with the leaves that I will keep with the bud. Just healthy looking bud sites with tons of flowers too.

Since it was my first grow I wasn't too careful, or should I say I was careless!! (I have another 10 plants going, will be flowering the second grow as soon as the first is finished 3-4 more weeks, timed it well). I took one and let it bush out with proper care and took longer to flower. That's the one with the most growth (duhh) at the bud sites. So I will repeat my step on the second grow with that one.

I hear and was told by my hippie 52 year old cousin that proper pruning is important to get good development at flower sites as well as to get light down to the lower branches so they develop well. It also produces major THC and little leaves. (That's what he said, and he's done more drugs in his days than my entire High School did when I was going there 25 years ago)!

How bout it experts... what's the best way to handle this issue on pruning?

Only cut a fan leaf if it is blocking tons of bud sites from the light or if it is dead and just hanging(outdoor can cause mold and other probs if left hanging sometimes)but over pruning can stunt your plant ,shock it and possibly hermie it depending on the stability of the strain.Thats my 2 brain cells worth.
