Zandor I'm buying a 1000 Watt HydroFarm DayStar AC Reflector with Glass Lens, Sunlift Hanging Kit and a HydroFarm Powerhouse Switchable Ballast. Now the question is how many CFM's will it take to cool the light? I'll be using a squirrel cage fan and exhausting it through the 6" flange attatched to the reflector. I'm thinking 465cfm's Would you agree with that?

Hey Trichome...

I think that trial and error would be the best way to find out...

But honestly, I think that the Dayton is overkill with about 10 times order of magnitude.

In my cool tube, I've got one 50CFM fart fan blowing through it... and it runs fine. I'm running right now the 400W MH. If you want, I can give you intake air temperatures and exhaust air temperatures... so we can have a 'base'.

I recall that in Mellow Man's cool tube FAQ, he had a 6" fart fan (90CFM) cooling a 1000 W bulb... and he was doing perfectly fine... he could even touch the bulb with his fingers after a couple of hours!

Yeah I was thinking with such a contained enviroment such as a Aircooled reflector with a glass lens and vent tubing plugging any holes it would be fairly easy to judge cfm removal. It's a matter of finding someone with a 1000 Watt MH/HPS DayStar AC now. Or zandor's ridiculous math with still astounds me. I understand exactly what he's saying but I would just never think of that on my own. I think I'm a damned good grower but this dude is like a robot with mathematical equations. Like a machine. ooooohhhh scary isn't it?

That is a little much you don't need to spend that much money. A 265 is fine for one light maybe 2 of them. You are bringing the air in from the outside, through the hood and back out the other side of the room...............right.

Then a 265 is great for you, to do the math I need to know the distance of the vent lines as well, the makeup (i.e. ribbed or not) that makes a difference in the backpressure and through pressure.

90 CFM is a little week and can show some warm spots in a large hood. You need to be able to move the air out as fast as possible but not to over pressure the hood either or the vent tubes. The air enters the hood and can circle around for a bit before it exits the hood if the air pressure is not high enough not all the air will exit the hood in a timely manor. That's something to think about.


That was a good movie not in my top 10 favorites but a good movie.

Yes I will be venting air in from the outside. The reflector is about 2 feet wide in a 4 foot wide room. that leaves 1 foot left on both sides of the reflector. So totaled I'm guessing 2 feet of tubing with 2 elbows. Using 6" duct all the way baby.

Yes the 265 is great for that size of run for sure.
