hydro setups

i'm starting a hydro setup, i just want something easy to maintain and i heard about aqua trays or water culture setups how well do these work. do you just put the nutrient solution in a tray under the pot with a mixture or soil and small pebbles in it.

I wish it were that easy. If you are new to growing you may want to get a few dirt grows under your belt first before you try Hydroponics. You will spend more money on Hydroponics to start growing then you would with dirt. There is more work to do in hydroponics then dirt farming too.

With hydroponics you can get in one or too more grows a year (indoors) then you would in dirt. That's why most of use use Hydroponics farming.

There is a method called "Fertigation" the article wrote by Ed Rosenthal in Heads Magazine. That would be the best way for you to start out in hydro. Start your seeds in 2" rockwool cubes. Mix a balanced solution (mild) with a stable ph of about 5.8. when the roots start to pop out the bottom move the cube into a Large rockwool cube. From there take the large cube and place it in a pot of soil. Water the soil with regular clean water. water the cube once or twice a day (when ever it's looking dry) with your hydroponic solution. make it stronger according to the chart your nutes suggest per week. I had great results doing so. The dirt provides a stable medium for your plant wich will help in case of errors.

Once you plant it in dirt you are growing in dirt. Rockwool is just a starter medium.

Dirt farming is not Hydroponics by any definition.

Well yes hydroponics growing is faster for sure. The yield is larger if you think that we can get 1 or 2 extra cycles in ever year over dirt farming. That adds up fast. Well I think the quality is better and the THC percentage is higher too because in hydroponics I feel the plant has a better chance of reaching it full potential given all the care and monitoring required for hydroponics over dirt farming.

On that note..without warping the thread..is it possible to get organic nuts for hydro plants..or is it all chemically engineered...and if the argument is that dirt plants taste better...won't organically 'hydroed' plants yeild AND taste superior???

You can grow organic in Hydroponic. There are none of the boosters or enhancers that are available to non-organic gardening but such as life. There are some that say they are organic boosters but I have doubts, the formula looks exact as the regular booster so I think AB is just a marketing thing.

I tried it a few years ago and I may do another round next year too but I could not tell the taste. The strains were the same and the jars got mixed up so we had no cule what was what. Noboby could tell the difference or say if it was organic or not. The only way I could tell is the organic buds were smaller and did not weigh as much.

as far as organic hydro goes, I'm going to try Advanced Nutrients Dr Hornnby's Iguana
Juice...It comes in a grow 1-part and bloom 1-part...hope this helps, check it out.lw
