Don't knock self taught...I am too and so is my son for the most part.
We're back to that old question again...how do you get to carnegie hall?
practice practice practice...
which I don't do nearly enough of in my old age. but it warms my heart when
the young one plays something I can relate to as opposed to his penchant for
speed/death/metal/whatever he at least still appreciates the old boys like
hendrix and floyd.
i am located close to anoka and not a big clapton fan...always felt he was
a bit overrated but that's just me and it didn't stop me from learning to play the keyboard part of Layla
if you want to learn to play spend some time learning some
Tull...Yes...and never ever forget the Allman Brothers...Duane was
one of the best there ever was.
the kid is learning to be a recording engineer...warms his techie daddies heartNever take your cell phone out of it\'s holster when using the restroom. BG

Bonsai Guy,
Well said!
As for lessions, I guess you use what resources you have the best you can. If the instructor is willing to listen (and the student too), a kind of synergy happens. But you can't replace learning on your own; everybody is self taught to a degree. My best lessons were learned jamming with older, more experienced musicians, and I didn't have to pay them, just keep up with them. That's when I started getting stoned too, come to think of it.
My favorite, Comfortably Numb, has already been mentioned. Just remember the rests are as important as the notes.
