    Sexing?

Got a question on sexing... I'm not planning on any more mistakes... but one can never be too careful about some issues...

I have a female (I know that it's producing female flowers on almost all the branches, and this one has dozens of flower sites) except for the main cola. The top of the cola has what looks like female flowers starting (no balls), but I don't see any hairs coming from them yet.

My second female tomato plant has hairs on the cola, and branches.

I've already learned that each strain will sex at differant rates, while some take longer and some quicker. But this one plant (over 2 feet and growing like crazy is just showing these things (look like little drinking pitchers) on the cola with no hairs... whats up with that?

Is this typical of some strains, or is it just more time that it needs to develop the hairs? Like to share a photo, but have to wait till later on that.

    Sexing?

Just looked this morning at the female that is huge. Noticed that hairs coming out from the top of the cola, but still have 2 funny looking organs on 2 sets of leaves below the top. No balls, look like the female organ above it and the others, just not hairs.... can I be postitive that they are female, have to wait, or not worry about them at all.

    Hey Mighty...Buds and Zandor,

I've checked the pic you showed a couple of times and since I'm still recovering whats left of my first tomato plants I noticed that all of the rest of the plants have at least one flower with pistals somewhere on it. 2 are covered with them, and the others are just starting to show. One just starting is stretching more than I would have like to see, but that's the breaks. They are under 1KW of HPS, noticed today that I burned the tallest one a bit (light to close), so I had to raise it up 8 inches. Should have realized that it was too close, learned that one also today!!

But what really got me was that not all pistals will show hairs, I was under the impression like others before me was that they all would show hairs, but I guess not, that's confusing as I keep worrying that it might hermi on me. But as you said, just keep an eye on them.

Zandor, I don't see anything like the balls or even close to it in the link you posted, just pistals with no hairs. But the sad thing was that I chopped down 2 extremely healthy plants that I thought were male, but didn't give them enough time to show their true colors so to say (one I was really sure about since I could see a ball on a tiny thread, but could have waited to be totally sure unless that is TOTALLY SURE). BIG MISTAKE... but you learn from these mistakes and don't make them again.

My second grow in the seedling/veg room (just a small 24"x6'x4' area I blocked off) is going great, the WW are in with a swag seed incase one didn't germ. Some have 2 seedlings and I will be clipping down the non WW in a few days once they both show second set of leave and I am sure the WW are taking off fine. (backup reserve from all the swag seeds laying around).

Just taking care of what's left of these plants carefully. They say a watched pot doesn't boil. Well the same can be said about plants. You have to chill out a bit, and just leave them to nature, with 'some' care and help they will be fine. First grow is always exciting, but you learn to pace yourself. 10 days into 12/12 and one left to find out what it is... somethings there, but too early to tell.

Thanks for all your help, and I hope some of these posts will help others a bit. There's more to growing tomato plants than just waiting to eat them. Difference is going to the store and getting them versus waiting while you grow them yourself... arrrghhhhh!!! Anticipation!

Thanks for the reply, and lets hope our Government realizes the benifits both medicinally, as well as the safety of it in general.
