    125w in wardrobe

hello, all Im thinking about starting to grow my own, and would need help from all you experienced folk.
If I put a dual spectrum 125w light, in wardrobe, for five plants, what type of fan would I need, also there is gaps in wardrobe doors, for dark period, how can I cover it up withouth doing any structural work, would a black sheet pinned over door help?

Tomatoes, no one ever said they were easy i spoze.

    125w in wardrobe

how big is this wardrobe? for HID lighting the rule of thumb is 50w per square foot.. .even more for flouro... i assume that is a 125w evl or other type of fluoro??

depends on how big the gaps are... you might be able to use weather strip effectively if they are small

a single 125w is no good for 5 plants.. id say 2 maximum... you can start 5 and keep only the best looking females.. but to finish all 5 plants you wouldnt get squat for yeild... you would be much better to stick with fewer plants

ventilation depends on the type of light you have, how much heat you have to exhaust, and the method of odor control... you have to do some work on the wardrobe in order to have proper air intake and exhaust.. recirculating the air inside the box isn't going to cut it, plants need fresh air just like you and me... if you use a carbon scrubber to control odor, then you need a stronger fan, etc

i grow with all fluoro and i use 3 computer case fans - 1 intake, 1 exhaust, and 1 inside for 'wind' ... i can get away with these weaker fans because i use an ozone generator for odor control, so there isn't any extra load on the fans (like pushing air through a carbon filter would create - requiring a stronger fan)

thanks for your repsonse. its appreciated. I think this is going to be more difficult than I thought. The gaps in the wardrobe are when you close the two doors, they dont quite eet in middle. As for the fresh air I was kind of relying on the gaps .The wardrobe is about 31/2 ft wide,by two ft deep.
I have children, so I didnt want to do too much damage to wardrobe doors, if you know what I mean.

    thanks anyways,

well you can cover the front of the wardrobe if you prefer... but it has to be lightproof

and you can cut holes to install ventilation fans on the rear side, and just leave it an inch or 2 out from the wall to allow airflow... if your gonna use all flor, heat wont be an issue, but odor will always be, no matter how you choose to grow :twocents:

    hi rastagal
I have a wardrobe closet (4 x 5) that I grow in. I cover up 2 holes at the bottom with a piece of cardboard and then tape over that. Keeps it nice and dark for budding. I'd also up the wattage. You're not going to get much with 125 watts. In the day, I open up the closet and turn on the fan. It works for me! Good luck.
    peace,

if your only going to grow one plant, then the one 125w will be enough, but you may want to hang some mylar ($1.99 emergency blanket from the camping section at wally world, or any outdoors/ backpackers shop) so that the area is smaller... any more plants or a large area would require more light

if the grow area is much larger than the plant then alot of light is wasted, scale it down to just fit the plants you have and more light will be reflected back to the plants

ex: watts per square foot is a pretty good measure for light... you want way more than 50 since this is fluoro (50w per sq.ft. is the rule of thumb for HID lights)... but with just one plant you could hang a divider so that if you have a 4 square foot area now, it becomes half that, basically doubling the light / area ratio, resulting in much more light available for the plant

of course that is the cheap way, and it depends on how many plants you wanna grow.... personally i would use that 125w light in a maximum area of 2 square feet.... my current grow is a micro project that is only 1 square foot for a single plant, running 105w of fluoro light

Im hoping for three at max I guess, so I should get another light?
