UK-US-AUS-NZ-CAN-IRE etc. Slang thread.
We all speak english but not exactly the same so I thought we could have a cross cultural discussion on how english is spoken in different places.
For instance..
"Pissed" in the US means "mad or angry" but in the UK and elsewhere it means drunk.
To "take the piss" in the UK means to make fun of...whereas in the US that would mean that you have taken some urine...er.. somewhere.
To take "a piss" in the US means well..to urinate.
"mad" means crazy in the UK but in the US it means "pissed."
Like to "skin up" in the UK and elsewhere would be to roll a joint.
However in the US that would sound like you were going to jerk off or something vaguely sexual like that.
I once had a friend from Belfast who was always like "let's skin one up" and I at first thought he was pervin' out on me. But he really just wanted to get high.motahead Reviewed by motahead on .
