Because the resin out of the bong gets wet and it is never the same again when it drys. Plus it looses THC. Pipe resin is heaps sticky like honey, well most of it, other resin in there is like what you said. The most sticky shit is way at the bottom of the built up areas of resin in the pipe. Thats the stuff I keep and I throw away the other resin.
