I received a package from insidesun.com and hooked up an mh conversion bulb to a 400 watt hps and it started sparking and rancid smoke started pouring out the vents. What is the problem?

InsideSun products are fucking useless. Return the product and buy either a HydroFarm, SunSystems or Sunleaves grow light kit. I know it costs slightly more but trust me it is worth it in the years to come. Here are two trustworthy websites to buy from that I have used in the past. www.bghydro.com and www.gchydro.com

I don't think they are useless. It's just easier to find a lemon with a refurbished unit. They sell new stuff too though. Email the guy and tell him, I'm sure he'll do you right.

You hooked-up a MH to a 400W HPS?

What did you do exactly? Did you hook-up a MH or a HPS?

What's the bulb? MH? or HPS?
What's the ballast? MH? or HPS?

I'm intrigued with this 'conversion bulb'... maybe you can do that... but my ballast has like 443 warnings that I shouldn't connect a MH bulb to the HPS side, and the other way around...

No it wasnt a refurbished one, it was the reeal deal. And a conversion bulb is an mh bulb you can hook up to an hps ballast. Also the bastard sent me a chrome reflector instead of a white one!
