Have you ever lived in a dorm before? At most Uni's, having "illegal items" in your room is a pretty big deal and depending on what it is they'll be happy to call the police on you. Given the post-9/11 world we live in I'm not really surprised that someone would report a knife, especially if it was larger than it should be.
