    Conditioned Response to THC

It's been proven that the consumption of marijuana (THC and other accompanying cannibinoids) are capable of activating the hunger center in your brain (hence, the munchies  ).

But I have a theory, and I really hope it's wrong.

If someone was to smoke regularly (easily 3-5 times a day), and often to settle one's stomach, wouldn't your body eventually come to depend on the drug to produce hunger?

I say this because I'm pretty sure I fucked up my appetite over the years by smoking before I eat, and smoking when I wake up, and before I sleep. I'm rarely hungry, and when I am I never seem to actually eat until I smoke.

Just wondering if anyone had any corroborating evidence to back up this left-of-center theory of mine. :what:

no I dont think this is possible because THC doesnt actually produce the hunger hormone (yeah there is one, it was recently discovered by a harvard researcher) so I dont think you could get a conditioned response. but I dont know.

I back it up.. i found when i was dry for a week last time that i hardly ate.. i'd miss breakfast.. i'd eat lunch at 2pm, i wouldn't finish my dinner.

Now, when i have weed i am always hungry and always eat all of the food i am given (plus a boatload more!)

I don't think you can depend on weed to be hungry, but i believe you could become dependant and not eat proper without it.. but you'd eat eventually

yeah I must revise my opinion in light of 3 sheets wisdom. you might not be hungry for a while. but you sure as hell would get hungry sooner or later.

I know people who've gotten cannabis cards because they've smoked for so long they can't become hungry without it. I know people who've smoked every night, so they can't fall asleep without it.

When I saw the thread title, I thought you were talking about conditioned responses from the media and anti drug propaganda. Of course there are conditioned responses: I think a lot of the people who act all lame and annoying when they're high do it just because they think that's what marijuana does to you.

Also, welcome back Mello. You don't post very much anymore; are you posting in the members' only forum? You were one of the first names I saw when lurking around these forums debating whether or not to sign up.

It's very much possible, but it might not be so much a conditioned response as a natural side-effect that the consumtion of Marijuana at larger quantities produces, that is the general loss of appetite when one is not under its effects.

Use a vapouriser because that doesnt make you hungry because it doesnt realise the cabbinoids (sp?) which are the things that make you hungry.
