whats the difference between overwaterying and under

My plants have not been watered in 3 days so i watered them today and used the strategy i have read often in these forums which is to let the soil dry a few inches deep and then water till it floods through, and then wait. well today i watered because the leaves were looking a little down, and when i watered the leaves just drooped a bunch more and even the tops of the plant are bending over a little, is this overwatering? What are some key signs between overwatering and underwatering?

    Definetly sounds like overwatering..

How old are your plants? plants that are 30+ days old start to drink a lot of water..A LOT!

What temp is the room? a room that is between 75-85 degrees will help with an even drying process throughout the pot.

Do you have perlite in the soil? This also helps the pot dry out evenly.. Perlite does not retain water.. it is good to have 1/2 inch to 1 inch of the bottom of your grow container filled with perlite... It will almost always be moist at the bottom of your container yet the perlite will provide oxygen for your roots at the bottom, since perlite does not retain water.. This is a great safe gaurd.. especially if you are a new grower and love your plant to DEATH!!

    : )

These questions will help us understand why the top couple inches were dry but the rest of the container was not..

A dry container will be VERY VERY light...

If the leaves on your plant are drooping and you pick up your pot and it is like "wow, this shit is so light".. then it needs water... it will be crazy weird LIGHT!!

After a couple grows you will figure this out and it will be very easy for you to tell..

    Can you post a pic?

A few inches deep? Let the soil get dry down to the bottom of the pot THEN water. Good Luck!!!
