To me, it's what it represents. Unregulated ability to search anybody without any supervision simply because your letter is entitled, "National Security?" It's a fair counter-argument to say that if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about, but I think that's too vague a statement. Simply put, even though it's a bit extreme, this is how oppressive governments start to form. Obviously that won't happen simply because of the Patriot Act, but take a right away here, another one there... it's just something that completely contradicts a foundation of this country that I think it should be done away with.
If you haven't seen Good Night and Good Luck, or if your unfamiliar with the journalism work of Edward Murrow, he wisely said, "You cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home." Wouldn't you agree?
