do they wipe the backwash out of the actual liquid itself? Nope. bacteria love to cling to metal chalices. I swear.

Yeah, they place a sponge in the cup, after each sip.
I don't like the idea, either.

I'd rather share a sip of wine with a church-goer than share a joint or a blunt with most people, if I was that concerned with catching disease.
