Size of box question
just got some wood to make a box. I am going to make it 4 feet tall. 5 feet long 2 feet deep. I plan on putting 10 plants inside 3-5 gallon buckets.... and using a 10o0watt light. I wanted to make it 5 ft tall but there was no 5x5 only 4x5's. Do you think im going to need to worry about it being only 4ft tall. i plan on getting this light system.help me out Tell me if this would be a good deal.

you cant put a cieling on it. if you did the light would be too close to the plants and it would burn the fuck out of them.

i dont know if your going to be able to fit 10 growing plants in there. maybe 10 seedlings in small pots/cups. it looks like great construction though. good luck with your grow.

What are you going to do for ventalation, and heat control you don't want to fry them, also i agree with sqareguy its a tight fit for 10 plants, are you going to put 10 females in there? or just plant them then remove the males later??

you could attempt to bonzai them to keep the size down, but when you start influencing the plants growth eventually your going to start influencing the quality of bud produced. I agree, with the previous posts this is going to eventually become too small of a space for the plants. Not to mention 10 plants at budding growth just wont happen...maybe 4 or 5. Even at 4 or 5 your going to need C02 injection if it's going to be enclosed or you'll end up with a box of oxygen, and stunted plant growth.

There will be holes and fans and all that.. I plan on getting two rows of 5 buckets in each row. It will fit perfectly. I will be getting all female clones. the size of them are already to my knee. I am not worried about how many plants i can fit in but if 4ft tall is too small. I think i can keep the plants somewhat short.

I used 2x4's for the construction... actually, they measured 1.5"x3.5". For the panels (doors, roof, walls, floor) I used 0.25" thick plywood. I thought it was going to be too thin, but it worked out fine.
After construction, I sealed all seams two times (left to dry for 2 days, then re-sealed) with wood silicone.
I painted the interior with white paint (a couple of hands of paint) and then I applied mylar to all surfaces. Mylar kicks ass!
I'm planning on growing 15 plants inside my cabinet. It measures 20" deep, by 40" long by 48" high. I'm growing the mother plants right now... I plan on cloning them for sex, then removing the males. Then, taking 15 clones from the females... then growing.
As to the buckets... I don't know how it'll work out for you. This is my first grow ever.
I'm doing a Hydro NFT (Nutrient Film Technique)... so my plants will fit pretty good in there... and I'm also doing a SCRoG. So that will help keep the height down. Syrrus said that if you bonsai a plant you'll affect bud... I don't know about that... I would think that smaller plants produce tighter and denser buds. Tall plants would produce long and lanky buds.
Anyways... I'd like to give you a few tips that would sure as hell would have helped me out shitloads...
I don't know about your lighting situation, but I've got a dual ballast and a 400W MH and a 600W HPS. In flowering I'll run both of them. I've got an air cooled reflector... the ones that have a glass at the bottom, so all the hot air of the bulbs doesn't mix with the grow room's air. I must tell you, these sealed reflectors kick ass!!! I've got a 50 CFM fart fan hooked up to mine, and I've got my plants less thant 4 inches away from the bulb...Needless to say, they're growing very, very happilly.
BUT... new plans... my reflector, I'm unable to fit inside my cabinet. I knew this before I ordered it... but my plans where to cut the reflector and bend two inches on each side... so it would be slimmer... then place it inside my cabinet.
But I've read some threads here about Cool Tubes... You use a Pyrex Bake-A-Round (eBay) and you place your bulbs and sockets inside the cool tube... then you hook-up 4" dryer duct hoses to the cool tube, and hang it inside your cabinet. I plan on doing exactly this. The cool tube will take much more less space than the reflector, PLUS I don't have to damage my perfectly new reflector in the process.
After I've got my cool tube, I'll build a 'wing' type of reflector made out of sheet metal... then I'll cover its bottom with mylar (I'm telling you, mylar kicks-ass!). I'll hook-up my 50 CFM fart fan to the cool tube, and that'll be that.
For cooling, I'm going to do passive air intakes at the bottom of the cabinet, and one 90 CFM 6" fart fan @ the top taking air out and pushing it through a carbon air scrubber (Overgrow.com has some pretty good FAQs on building them).
I'll also place a 50 CFM fart fan @ my window... so it takes fresh air... perfectly fresh air... then I'll duct that air near the passive air intakes at the bottom of the cabinet... Fresh air is super important!
I hope this helps. Please let us know what you plan on doing...
Best,

Well the simple pulling of the stock wont affect the quality of the bud at all; however, bonsai isn't only about working with the stock. Bonsai in classical terms means root trimmings, branch cuttings, and assorted bindings, depending on the plant this can put extreame amounts of stress on the plant. So depending on the strain bonsai can either add or detract to the quality of the bud.
