Nov. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Australian police arrested 15 people in Sydney and Melbourne for allegedly stockpiling explosive chemicals and planning a ``catastrophic'' terrorist attack that may have killed hundreds of people.

``Thankfully, the police forces of this country may just have prevented a catastrophic act of terrorism,'' New South Wales state Police Minister Carl Scully told reporters in Sydney. The statement was broadcast on Sky television.

A force of 400 police and intelligence officers used helicopters with searchlights in raids on 15 properties in Sydney and Melbourne early today after a 16-month investigation, Scully said. The raids came after the government passed tougher anti- terrorism laws through parliament last week.

Now what if they didn't have the right to do a proper investigation regarding something like this? What if it were one of your relatives killed because of that lack of protection? There are nuts out there with no respect to life.....
