Does anyone know how roots grow.. width vs. depth. For example will a 3 gallon pot that is 3 feet high and 1 foot be just as good is 2 feet high and 2 feet in width?

This would help me greatly as i would be able to make far better use of my grow space if i could get taller skinnier buckets.

you can use 2 liter soda bottles for the grow and they will make it all the way or 2 gal buckets. 12 2 liter in a cat pan works good with the right light.

Well the rootball will grow out and that will stablize the upward growth for sure. Feeder roots will go down or really go anywhere to find food. If the rootball is bound then the over all growth will be affected.

Problem growing in a 3 liter bottle is the roots bound very quickly and easly and clog the drain holes and that caused nutrient imbalance and other problems, over watering is just one of many problems to consider.

sentinel... this is why.. watering technique and soil mixture is so important...

if the soil has air and water.. roots will go there and thrive!! but if pockets of mudd.. or dry pockets form.. roots will not go there or existing roots will die..

I always prefered deep over wide.. and most books and GROW GURUS would agree.. but we have seen some pretty amazing stuff on this forum in 6 inch deep pots... look at tranobles thread... it is just a big shoe box the guy grows in.. and it is f-ing amazing!!
