Sure, Alito's qualified. Sure, he's a staunch conservative. Even though I can't stand the latter, that's just who he is.

The point progressives should be making is that W lied - imagine that - when he said in 2000 that he is "a uniter; not a divider." This certainly isn't the choice of someone making any sort of attempt to unite the people of this country.

It's also quite dangerous to so heavily populate the highest court in the land with justices of a similar ideological ilk, liberal or conservative. Despite what anyone may think, there are not more conservatives in this country than there are liberals. Don't believe the hype, Jack. It's about 50-50. Supreme Court nominations should reflect that.

Then again, I wouldn't expect anything else from this president. W's made politics and dangerous game - and this court pick is purely political.
