mellow man - great explanation.. and I see your point exactly (thanks to your great explanation)... regarding the bulb never heating up enough to send 155+ degree air to the fan... maybe you could put a thermometer right in front of the fan to check the air temp right before it gets to the fan...

Thanks!.......Just glad I could help out a fellow grower! .......concerning getting a tempature reading from the area of the air before it reach's the fan would be hard considering all the duct is taped up and what not!...but over the next couple of days I'll see what I can figure out to get a close enough tempature reading as possible....stay tuned!

Do you think it would be possible to run two 250W bulbs in a setup like this? Perhaps a MH and a HPS.

Sure thing! can't see why not!.............there is several sizes of candle glass at walmart and other stores like K-mart (Martha Stewart section) I got my glass tube @ walmart for only $6.78 and my wife was at zellers and picked me up a small glass tube that would fit a 250w hps no problem,she picked up the small glass tube not knowing the 1000w HPS bulb is huge! lol but you know you got a good wife when she is out shopping around for her self and at the sametime keeping her eye open for things for my grow room lol....

but ya you could pick up a smaller glass tube to fit the 250 w hps bulb or you could use a big ass glass tube I used for my 1000w for the 250w still would serve the 250w hps bulb anyhow.....as for the mh bulb a small mh bulb could fit into the large glass tube I used, no problem,but now I have to go out and get a bigger glass tube for my 1000w mh sunmaster cool deluxe bulb! because the glass tube I used for my 1000w HPS bulb is too small at the entry point of the glass tube for the 1000w mh bulb.......but should go right over a smaller mh bulb no problem!..............so to your question yes /yes and yes! exact same principal of putting together a 1000w cool tube! as it would be for a 250w,or 400w,0r 600w bulbs..........................

I know where to get a bigger glass tube for my 1000w sunmaster mh bulb I'll probably pick that up tomorrow and post a pic of it here!..............to behonest if I really wanted to I could get a glass cutter at canadian tire and run the glass cutter around the glass tube I already have,just etch into the glass ever so slightly a couple of times and once thats done a couple of times tap the glass slightly and it result in a clean break! which then would allow the hump on the 1000W MH bulb to enter into the glass tube therefore fitting!....either way I'll get the job done........here are a few pics to show different size glass tubes the small one was the one my wife picked up for me lol...perfect for a 250w bulb for sure!....but for a mh bulb youl'l have to go wider with the tube!...........

Nice job but I prefer Pyrex Bake-A-Round's that way you can have air in from the outside through the tube and back out the other side of the room and use 1000w HPS light and keep it cool.

Ya I considered the bake arounds for my project as well but I have to buy those items online! and the last time I checked they cost alot more then a glass candle tube.....but hey whats good for me may not be good for everyone else!..........................I based this project of the cool tube I made to show the cheapest way for growers to purchase such a set up!.....no doubt you could use them bake arounds with great results but I believe the results of the glass tube probably are just as good as the bake arounds.....................................

I based my setup on the share fact that I built everything with my cool tube for under$100.00..................but I did look at the bake arounds on the net but would have cost me way to much! considering I needed three of them..........either way thanks for adding to this Thread Zandor!...............

I noticed that the Bake around ain't alot more exspensive then the candle tubes,they are on ebay for 12 to 15 bucks plus shipping and handling and the candle tubes are $6.78 and the glass on the bake arounds seem to be much thicker then the Candle tubes I used? will the thickness of glass impede some of the lumens?????........is the bake around real glass? or a plastic?

Very good job Mellow Man and you are correct about the cost of Bake-A-Rounds. They did cost a few more bucks with shipping the cost was about 20 bucks each for me. I just got lucky and found 6 of them so I have 4 to use and 2 extra.

Ok you now have an FAQ. Some day I will put up one on using Bake-A-rounds so you can use 1000w hps bulbs the glass is a little thicker and can take the heat they put out better.

I'm looking into making one of these. The bake arounds are pyrex and made for high oven temps. But I can only find on ebay, I hate ebay( got screwed a few times). Mellow Man I see your fan is close to the light could it be backed off in line to bring the heat down at the fan. My lines would only be 4 or 5 feet long. Zandor how far away are you fans from the light and what kind. I have everything but the glass. If I keep this up I will have to run more underground electric to my shed, maybe 220 or 221 what ever it takes. LOL. No really I been running electric for 20 years.
