MORE RACIAL PROFILING BROUGHT TO YOU IN FULL BY GEORGE W. BUSH
Sadly, this is not unique to our current President. I've studided American History fairly well, and feel that more people should know about how our country has been sick and twisted even from it's roots. Not trying to make the country sound bad, but just trying to show how racist and predjudice we were from the start.
-Slavery is legal in the U.S. (not uncommon at the time)
-During the second presidency: Alien and Sedition Acts passed, this made it illegal to post anything against the government. They also made it difficult to become a citizen. (Repealed)
-Indians constantly pushed further and further west. Promised treaties, they even won a supreme court victory which said they had legal claim to hold their terriotory and government, the President at the time (I think it was Andrew Jackson) ignored this, and drove them away with murderous intent.
-Indians were given semi-sovernty eventually, but guess what? That was revoked.
-African Americans were eventually freed, which was great. 14th and 15th amendments passed, things looked great! Until all of a sudden poll taxes were created, the grandfather clause passed (i.e. only if your grandfather was free as of 1864 you could vote, which for black men this was virtually none of them).
-Many Indian Tribes anhilated for not compying with the US, which was trying to force them to live in reservations.
-Jim Crow Laws (Seperate but equal is apparently constitutional in the US, but hey, the US gave blacks shitty counterparts of superior white furnishings. How pathetic)
-Anti-lynching laws...DO NOT PASS. The KKK is revived around the first world war. The president watches a KKK movie (think it was Woodrow Wilson) and says it's the most patriotic film he's ever seen, he stated he was deeply moved.
-Blacks in WWI were not allowed to fight in the US army, just perform menial task. Yet the French commanded a unit of US Black Soldiers and allowed them to fight. They were given the highest french medal of honor yet the US wouldn't give them any medals at all.
-During WWI, if you said anything against the government's involvement you were unpatriotic and could be Jailed.
-During WWI, Germans in the US were viewed very negatively, much like Muslims were in your article. People withdrew their children from the German schools.
-The US believes in a concept known as Eugenics (You-Jen-icks). (This next part sound like anyone? *cough*hitler*cough*) This means that they beleive certain "races" are superior. Like a tall white man with black hair and green eyes is vastly superior to an asian man with brown eyes. Many organizations and even the government (not 100% sure on this but I can find out if you want) pays money to sterilize "inferior" humans or to spread the concept of Eugenics.
-FDR was anti-semetic (he hated Jews). During WWII, he refused to let Jews into the country or increase quotas, despite the knowledge of concentration camps. It wasn't until the papers made a big deal about it that he finally admited the holocaust existed and allowed Jewish refugees to enter more freely.
-Japanese Americans were placed in internment camps during WWII. They were forced to leave/sell their homes and were allowed only to bring what they could carry. They were all placed in a compund filled with soldiers until the war was over, they could not leave until then.
-Charles Limburg and Henry Ford were prominant Pro-Nazi supports in the US. Charles Limburg even did everything in his power politically to bolster US support for Germany, and tried to prevent US involvement in WWII. Both men prominently hated Jews and it was well known, and accepted sadly...because most Americans also hated Jews.
-Blacks were still segergated in WWII, but at least it got better after that.
-Americans in Government jobs were forced to sign loyalty oaths for federal jobs, otherwise they were labeled communist. If you were labled communist in the 50's, let's just say you were pretty much f---ed.
-Many former Nazi's were employed by the US government after WWII!!! After the Nuremburg trials, they weren't considered enemies of the "free-world" because they were anti-communist. That means the US didn't have a problem with Nazis anymore...
I can keep going, but I'll stop. Sorry for the long post, I just want to show that GW Bush has just been doing what has been going on in the US for centuries. In the US, your freedom isn't free. This is like most places in the world, so don't feel bad =P
**EDIT**The US does not subscribe to the theory of Eugenics any longer =PMy post count is no longer a power of two =(
