I resemble that remark!
I've tried everything from cloroxing the room (in between crops), mixing up marigold flowers and jalapeno peppers in a blender and spraying the plants, neem oil, toxic shit from home depot, hepa filters on my heat/air unit, sealing up every crack into the room, all with so-so success.
Some crops get 'em, some don't.
Cleanliness is a good deterrent. If you have houseplants, you will probably end up with spider mites. Treat the houseplants!
Keep dead foliage out, don't crowd the plants, and be prepared. Chemical pesticides can screw with a plant's growth, not to mention human lung tissue. If you do go the poison route, choose one that has a high degree of biodegradability.
I used to take a blowtorch to the little bastards after I pulled my plants and hung them. The mites gather up in a knot on the upper end of the plant, and I'd just toast 'em.
Good luck!
