    My Microscope!

Over the summer, our family drove out to visit our grandpa in New York. He's a former professor from the University of Rochester, and had a bunch of old lab equipment sitting around. We ended up taking home a SERIOUSLY high quality old brass microscope with accurate dials and good lenses.

Anyway, I completely forgot about it until today, when I saw the case sitting in our shop. I took it down to my room, opened it up, set up the light source, attached the lenses, and tested the dials. It still worked perfectly! Now, all I needed was a subject.

That's when I spotted the gram I had bought earlier this afternoon. It's two small nugs of a whitish crystally strain, and one small nug of this dark green stuff with more bright orange hairs than leaf. I extracted one hair from it, and laid it on a slide.

It took awhile to focus the lens correctly, but when I did, BAM! I was looking at my very own stash at 450x magnification!

I'd seen the online pictures of trichomes and the like, but it seemed really foreign and distant. Staring, right there, through my own microscope, at my own stash, looking at the trichomes of the weed I will soon smoke myself, made it somehow so real.

Anyway, I guess the point of the story is this: if you have a microscope, take some time to look at your stash. It really makes you appreciate the beauty of nature's design, in a strange way. I recommend it highly.
