I have been doing it as long as I remember.
It takes some practice to have them at will and to be able to be aware and not compromise the experience. I suppose the biggest obsticle to overcome is suprise and doubt. At the moment of reaslisation it is easy to bet excited. This alone can kick you back to a state closer to consciousness. When you feel suprise and excitement then doubt is not far behind. Its like "wow! look at this!I cant believe it!...." then 'pow' back to waking reality.
If you can curb the doubt by experience you will be one step closer to being fluid with it.
The easiest way to accomplish this is by deliberate attempts to experience 'lucid dreams'. Through deliberate attempts you will come to expect it to happen and be less likely to sabotage your own experiences.
A good book I can recommend for techniques is "Adventures beyond the body" by William Buhlman.
There are many techniques to set yourself on a wondeful journey, this book explores some of them. Your beliefs may not be the same as Mr Buhlman but the practicle ideas will work regardless of your beliefs.
Have fun!
