Neither is nessecarily "better" then the other. Infact they are best used in conjuction: Reflectors to shoot down any and all light, mylar to reflect lost light surrounding the plant (better lower canpoy developement). But I only have one thing to say as far as mylar goes... DON'T USE IT. It's just another thing in the grow room radiating heat from your bulb. Bet use flat-white paint. It IS and always will be better

Sorry RastaKaza but you need to be a little more flexable in your thinking dude.

I use only Mylar 2 mil my self and hereâ??s why.

One standard HPS bulb puts out 140,000 Lumens. If White paint reflects 86% light for most grows you only end up with 120,400 lumens reflected. Sidelight is as important as top light but all to much people forget it all together (unless it's SOG). You lose 19,600 lumens that is absorbed by the paint.

With Mylar you reflect back 98% of the light that hits it. So the same 140,000 lumens HPS light as before you only lose 2800 lumens so you get 137,200 lumens reflecting back. Thatâ??s like adding a 150w HPS light for free. If you have more lights like I do then it ads up even more. With 6 1000 watt HPS light and Mylar you get another 100,800 lumens of light just for using Mylar. Thatâ??s like the 7th light of 1000 watts is free.

Thatâ??s why you should use Mylar Itâ??s all in the math.

As for refelectors................

If you have an air cooled hood with glass there gerrrrrrreat.
If you don't then you are refelcting heat down on your plants almost as much as the light refelection and heat is bad (most of the time)

I must concur with this.

I've got an air cooled hood with a glass at the bottom. Right now, it's running one 400W MH. I've got a 50 CFM fart fan blowing through it... My plants are like 1" to 2" away from the glass of the reflector... As Z said... they're GrrrEEAT!

Hah damn looks like I'm off to get some mylar ... that's a interesting bit Z thanks. I read a ton on overgrow about measuring your grow room temp correctly and I was at 73 farentheit lol might as well hit er' up with some mylar. Where can I get a roll of it?

If you can... order some off the net. Do some comparison shopping to find the best price. I'm telling you, that Mylar stuff kick-ass. Way better than aluminum foil.

There is a survival type blanket at wall-mart that cost like a buck or too. Like an emergency blanket, I have not seen these myself but several others say they have them. There made from 2-mill Mylar you may need a few of them but at that price it's ok. You can order some from eBay as well it's cheep there too and you can get in rolls. Just make it easy if you buy a roll then make sure you get a wide one it's easer to deal with. 1-mil thickness is ok but it does rip easy.
