How do ppl have accents?

People are simply products of their environment, essentially what dirty raider was saying.

We adapt to our surroundings, we develop an ear for the way people talk in order to understand them, and whichever accent has the most play in your environment (which also tends to become the accent you most understand) is more than likely the accent you'll pick up. Any other way of talk you hear will be an "accent" in your world, because that way of speaking/pronounciation is not the form of speak you understand the most.


But I wonder...do Brits find Americans accents as hard to understand as we find their accents to be? Ghosttoker?

Like i knows if u go to a area where they speak differant and lived there your accent would eventually change, but how does coming from differant parts of a country give you a accent? Don't know, i don't find american accents hard to understand in the slightest, all we get over here is american tv shows lol.. i bet you hardly get any british tv shows, apart from on the special channels you can have

in boston no one pronunces Rs i have a little accent but people in the city have a really thick accent i think they fake it for the tourists

how accents came about who knows diffrent cultures together butchering the language probably in boston its mostly italian in the northend and irish in the south boston

how every one else says it - park the car in harvard yard
how i say it and bostonians alike - pak the ca in havad yad

Yeah i love like old films with people from NY and NJ (noo joisey) talking, the accents they have, like very strong, nowhere near to pronouncing words properly, accents lol

Uh, actually, that's a Brooklyn accent, most New Yorkers talk the way you see on T.V. I don't even laugh at them there unruly English comics because of their funny way of talking out the mouth.
