The RoadQueen asked me last night...

Books tend to be better than movies anyhow...not that all movies are bad.

The first book I can recall that was impressive, at least at an early age, was "The Outsiders." Can't recall the author. I think they made a movie out of that one.

A more recent book that I'll always remember is "In the heart of the sea" by Nathaniel Philbrick. It's a true story and the story itself is what inspired Melville to write "Moby Dick" although the details of the story came to light not long ago.

I was in a cottage facing the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scotia while I was reading it. Sometimes where you read helps to enhance the story...like if you were to read "On Walden Pond" on the banks of Walden Pond.

About halfway through the book, on a clear sunny morning, a knock came on the door. It was a Canadian woman, a doctor by profession, on vacation, who was staying a few cottages away.
"Have you watched the news this morning?" she asked. A tear ran down her cheek.

I turned on the television and then sat there all day watching instant replays of planes flying into buildings.
Already, a hoax was on the internet and the poor anchorman on the news quoted from the hoax on t.v., with the world watching...he quoted from the hoax that had been a cut and paste job from several unrelated writings from the likes of Nostradamus and the Bible that had been spliced together to warn mankind that the end was upon us. The poor guy appeared to be perspiring.
Meanwhile, our government had ran off to hide. The president, whom months later landed somewhere in a flight suit was no fool. He was zig-zagging around in Air-Force One in an effort to confuse the enemy.
We did have the Mayor of New York and a couple of cops keeping us posted. They were at ground zero. They had no place to hide anyhow.

    ....I've drifted....sorry.. .

I could've sworn I saw "The Outsiders" on TV, and for some reason, I thought it was a Stephen King movie.

That Celestine Prophecy was good too. Did you find yourself staring at flowers for awhile after that?
