I have a mate, well kind of my best mate, hes 15 but a year ago he used to be into cutting his arms and stuff and he was proud that marilyn manson was his idol. He has this video on his phone, of this russian soldier getting his head cut off with a knife, i mean sawn off. Rating: 5

Nick Berg? Saw it. Screams kinda made me wanna vomit. God, the screams...

Oh and the decapitation? Violent... but that's not the thing. It's the screaming.
the nick berg video was edited and fake in a sense.he was already dead when they decapitated him.if he was alive when they decapitated him, blood would have sprayed outta his corpse at least 2 meters high.this is a proven medical fact, look it up.

as for ya friend,he's just seeking attention.he'll outgrow it soon.

OK, ive read almost everyones post about this subject. I myself havnt seen the russian soldier getting decapetated, but i have seen the terrorist videos. Very brutal. But nobody here that has not seen the video him/herself will be able to understand or, even comprehend why it is intersting to the kid.
It is very brutal, i started watching the Nick Berg one and stopped it b4 it got to the beheading because i knew exactly what was going to happen. But i got up the nerve with my uh, oh, nephew thats 11/12, forgot which one, and watched a few of them. Not the nick berg one though, just ones of them where they were beheading other Iraqis (bad spelling i think).
Well, the brutality of it is pretty mind racking. The blood spraying everywhere, and they do not scream when it happens, because they are cutting through the neck, you hear a kind of moaning sound for a second then it stops. But to me it was interesting. Not the bllood, not the gore, not the death of someone. Its not really why they do it, we know why, but its the HOW. How the fuck can someone actually grab a knife and saw at another human beings neck, while blood is spraying everywhere? It is insane? HOW the fuck could someone get interested in doing that? Its mindboggling (<lol).
So, yes, i can understand why he might think that is interesting. But he just might think its interesting that someone is dying and the brutality of it. Thats sick. But there isnt much you can do about it. Just ask why he likes it or if he likes it, and stuff like that. thats it......

That excuse is lame. Why would you watch something like that just so you can say "How can they do that?". You already know they do it, and watching the video isn't exactly going to clarfiy anything. But fuck it, whatever.

I think the primary difference between watching horror movies and real ones is that you KNOW you're watching a real person suffer. no matter how much you suspend reality and get scared watching dawn of the dead or whatever's popular (horror's aren't my thing, so I don't know), you still know deep down everybody's going to be ok. actually knowing the person I just saw get killed actaully had to suffer that, makes quite the difference to me.

as for your friend, my only theory is that it creates a blanket of security for him . I mean think about it, what better way to shield yourself from fear and vulnerability, than to descencitize yourself to that which instills those feelings more than anything?

Judging from lardman's post, can we safely assume he is mentally subnormal, though?

You mention some good points, as you are undoubtedly an intelligent and moral person, and perhaps horror movies are a bad analogy. However, I'm going to reiterate the point of my original post: we cannot jump to conclusions from a single clip. Things aren't so black and white.. there exists that proverbial gray area. Life, social interaction, the human brain.. all very complex things which are composed of and influenced by limitless variables. I believe that it is incorrect to assume so much from so little. That's all.

And I defend this sort of behavior because I'm sure that all of us have been undeservedly stigmatized at one or another point in our lives. True, it can bring nothing positive to the world, (Well, even that is debatable. And no, I'm not talking about the viewer senselessly murdering people. Heh.) but at the same time, it needs to be considered what harm it could bring us. I believe that an individual's capability to cause harm is within himself.

you might want to explain that behavior is straight up creepy and disturbing to friends. Imagine what strangers would think....
I'm a stranger and I am really shaken by the level of detachment you would have to feel to watch a real life horrific murder over and over again. I would be scared of such a person, if they could watch something that horrible and feel nothing but fascination to the point of obsession.
yeah I guess I am one of those pussies who cries over violence, but I cry because it is horrible to die that way and I feel so sorry for him. No one should die like that. I read the story but I can't watch the video. I won't.
Maybe he thinks it is cool to be graveyard creepy, but he has passed over into ted bundy land. Chicks will overlook a lot of things, but I don't think this skin crawling little quirk is going to land him any punani, any sympathy any friends or lead to any good.

Scarlett in all reality, you wouldn't be a pussy for being upset by that. Personally I don't understand why people think they somehow understand death better because they watch horrible things like that. I think that kind of thing is pretty stupid myself, honestly people need to see a shrink if they find that kind of thing interesting. But oh well.

Yeah on another note, I thought Cannibal Holocaust was nothing but a gratuitious piece of crap, but thats just me.
