well, spent 20 years in tucson and know mostly outdoor stuff in the tucson area and Reddington Canyon is one of the best hikes anywhere and ends in the bottom of the canyon at the stream with several fairly big waterfalls and swimming holes. it's the pass between the two mountain ranges on the east and north of tucson. take tanque verde road north to get there...it's not far but the road can be rough at times. mount lemmon is always a good spot too if you like mountains. summer haven is the small town up there and has everything a mt. town needs. for a longer hike, try mount wrightston in the santa rita range south of tucson. it covers every climate in the world except the arctic as you climb up on the well maintained trail. even greater if you have access to horses. the desert museum is a pretty cool place to spend a day too. it's on the west side across the tucson mts and old tucson (the movie town and tourist trap) is close too.
take a drive southeast and visit bisbee and tombstone. both towns are fun in their own ways and not far apart...can easily be a day trip but spend the night at bisbee if you can. it's an old mining town that has been kept in one piece and has many turn-of-the-century homes and b&b's. UofAz has an excellent SW/native american museum on campus. in fact it's fun touring the hot spots around the campus. excellent bars and shops. all the above are easy to find...or ask anyone for directions.
i live in hayden (about an hour northeast of tucson or an hour east of phoenix, just south of globe) during the winter/spring so i'll be down there soon too...probably be down next week for a quickie then down full time around mid-november (waiting on 2 haze plants to finish then i'm outta here!). or come up to las vegas. it's only 400 miles away and if you drive an extra 100 miles you can help me with this bubble hash...then help me load a truck for the hayden house and i can give you a ride home...lol.del...
