for example on the 6th hour have the HPS turn on and shine until the 12th hour. Or shall i put them both on for the full 18. or do I not bother at all and if i want more light invest in more MH??

equally i would like to know is can the MH bulb be used during flowing?

Would really appricieate some help witht this one.
Sure you can combine lights, you could put them on each side of your plants. Not on top but off to each side. Flowering with just a MH will not give you large heavy buds but you can use HPS and MH together just fine for flowering.
